About Us
The Kitchen of Kindness
At the heart of Chabad Cares Nevada is the Kitchen of Kindness, also known as Mendel's Kitchen of Kindness, Northern Nevada's only certified kosher commercial kitchen. Every month, between 50 and 100 volunteers come together here to prepare nourishing kosher meals for food-insecure individuals, homebound seniors, hospitalized patients, and their families.
Chabad Cares Nevada
Chabad Cares Nevada is one of Northern Nevada's leading Jewish nonprofit organization, the first of its kind in the region, and the largest local Jewish volunteer-powered organization serving people in need. Based in Reno, we serve communities across Northern Nevada, rooted in the Jewish value of Ahavat Yisrael, love for one's fellow. Our work includes senior outreach, hospital chaplaincy, emergency assistance, and youth and family programming, with a door and table always open to those who need them.
Our Founders
Chabad Cares Nevada was founded and is co-directed by Rabbi Moshe and Doba Cunin. Rabbi Moshe trained as a rabbi in both the United States and Israel and has spent many years volunteering in prisons, hospitals, and nursing homes. Doba brings years of experience leading children's programming, with a special focus on children with special needs, creating inclusive spaces where every child feels valued. Together, they founded Chabad Cares Nevada to give back to the community they call home.
Rooted in the Rebbe's Vision
Chabad Cares Nevada draws its inspiration from the teachings of Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, the Lubavitcher Rebbe, who transformed a small Chasidic movement into a global network of kindness, sending emissaries around the world with a simple but radical belief: that one good deed could change the world. That vision reached Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm, whom the Rebbe encouraged to use her seat on the Agriculture Committee to fight childhood hunger, a conversation that helped lead to the expansion of programs like SNAP and WIC. As Chisholm herself put it, "If not for the Rebbe, many more children in this country would go to bed hungry." The Kitchen of Kindness carries that same spirit forward here in Northern Nevada.
